The Opportunity

As a Data Science Business Analyst 2 you will join a team of qualified, diverse individuals supporting our public health data science customer. To be successful you should have a background in Data Science, Information Systems, Public Health, or a related field, and will work closely with the customers in gathering and managing their requirements.

This position is a fixed term agreement for the length of the project, expected to be 2 years with possible extension.

Core Responsibilities

Performs work on all aspects of the system analysis process from end-to-end of the software development life cycle.

  • Elicits requirements from subject matter experts using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, existing business process descriptions, and workflow analysis.

  • Analyzes information needs and documents functional requirements.

  • Documents business requirements and defines functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Conceptualizes new systems, enhancements, and modernization of existing systems, by facilitating requirements sessions, collecting, and analyzing requirements; constructing process flow charts and diagrams; studying system capabilities; writing specifications and documenting business rules.

  • Works with data analysts and subject matter experts to define data analysis requirements, including audience-based security models.

  • Collaborates with data scientists and GIS visualization specialists to define visualization requirements for dashboards, including wireframes, navigation, contents, and business rules for internal and external audiences.

  • Supports testing teams in translating requirements and use cases into test scenarios and test cases for product, performance, user acceptance, and operational acceptance testing.

  • Works closely with business SMEs and collaborates with the development team, enterprise architect and the project manager in all aspects of system design and development.

  • Organizes and maintains assigned business systems documentation.

  • Logs and triages customer requests for new features, and enhancements to be implemented in the system

  • Verifies and tracks satisfaction of requirements in delivered solution through acceptance testing.

  • Serves as a consultant to project management, senior management, and customers.

What We Value

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 year of relevant experience or Associate’s degree and 6 years of relevant experience

  • 1-3 years’ experience working as a Business Systems Analyst, demonstrating strong analytical skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.

  • 1-3 years’ experience working in an agile / iterative development environment.

  • Demonstrated experience with systems and applications development projects supported by the team including system components, functionality, interfaces, data flows, and business rule

  • Demonstrated experience in drafting/writing communication content, materials, and products.

  • Demonstrated experience in translating technical content into formats written in plain language.

  • Demonstrated ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and make quick decisions with limited information.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize end-user issues/requests.

  • Proven ability to integrate with a team and work well with others.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint).

  • Previous CDC and/or Public Health experience preferred

  • Formal training/certification in Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum Master certification) preferred

  • Experience with analysis, visualization and reporting software capabilities preferred

  • Knowledge of data science, data management, and data analytics techniques, technologies, and tools preferred

  • Familiarity with Azure, AWS, Hadoop, distributed data analytics platforms, geospatial data analytics and data management, and machine learning preferred

  • Understanding of North Star Architecture preferred

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $60,000 - $65,000. Salaries may vary by ten percent depending on the candidate’s geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
