The Opportunity

Abt is seeking Public Health Analysts to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in transforming the future of technology and public health. This position will be located in Atlanta, GA and will become part of a team that supports the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention. The qualified applicant will serve as a liaison between team and external partners (states, other federal agencies, non-profit organization, etc.), ensure all NNDSS case data, including laboratory data, are processed, and provided to the surveillance team in SAS data sets and provide research and analytic assistance in the testing of pharmacy data for analyses by surveillance epidemiologists. This position is contingent on project award to Abt Global.

Core Responsibilities

  • Analyzing and interpreting using epidemiologic and surveillance data to reduce problems related to chronic disease behavioral risks factors or disability.

  • Evaluate content data and provide support to state partners to prepare surveillance data for submission to CDC and Using data analysis results to write scientific papers for publications or for presentations.

  • Work with funded public health sites to prepare data for submission via FTP and for analyses, planning and monitoring status of data analysis and public health research projects.

  • Work with surveillance team experts and funded public health sites to develop algorithms and programs to extract and analyze the key information/data from health/laboratory records for inclusion in surveillance databases. As a pilot project, health/laboratory records from 1 or 2 funded sites will be used for this task in the first year.

  • Perform quality control analyses on data obtained from electronic records; maintain collection of research data through databases and other repository means: Gather and prepare data sets These data sets including, but are not limited to data from: Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP), National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS), National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NHAMCS), National Hospital Discharge Survey (NHDS), National Survey on Drug Use and Health (SDUH) and other data from Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). 1. Output datasets for specific analyses, 2. Write or assist in writing analytic programs for public health 3. Offer expertise to programs written by surveillance staff.

  • Develop readily available standard programs for analyzing case report data and use programs to produce quarterly reports, tables and graphs to support the annual surveillance summary, and data/information. Share programs, as appropriate, with external partners to improve data quality.

  • Generating hypotheses on the effects of environmental quality and public heath, and on the association between behavioral risk behaviors and chronic disease and preparing documentation and datasets for the dissemination on the internet.

What We Value

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Level 2: Bachelor’s degree in International Public Health, Public Health, or Epidemiology plus 2 years of experience. Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum 1 year of experience with SAS programming and analysis (Base, STAT, OR, ODS, SQL, GRAPH, macro).

  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Science, Healthcare with a minimum of 5 years’ experience or Master’s degree plus 3 years of experience. 3 years of experience conducting data analysis, research and develop publications on the association between risk behaviors and chronic disease. 3 yrs of experience in SAS programming skills and experience.

  • Level 4: Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Science, Healthcare with a minimum of 9 years’ experience or Master’s degree plus 7 years of experience. 5 years of experience in SAS programming skills and experience. 3 years of experience designing and conduct research and data analysis using State-based data involving public health issues.

  • Experience planning, monitoring, and supporting Public Health related projects.

  • SAS programming and analysis (Base, STAT, OR, ODS, SQL, GRAPH, and macro).

  • Basic understanding of HL7 and key message mapping.

  • Must currently have or obtain CDC security clearance.

  • Must be a US citizen having lived in the US for a minimum of seven years.
